Port Loko District – Kaffu Bullom – Marampa
The St. John of God Catholic Services are both located in two extreme chiefdoms as indicated in the district map above. In Port Loko district, there are 11 Chiefdoms of which Marampa(about 55,000) and Kaffu Bullom (about 65,000) inhabitants. Kaffu Bullom is the chiefdom where the International airport is located and Marampa is where the country;s highest revenues from Mining is derived. As a congregation and with a mandate and contract with the Public to run a General Hospital in the Marampa Chiefdom, we resolved during the period of quarantine of the hospital to initiate a plan of activities to be carried out in the Chiefdom in order to break the chain of exponential transmission of the EBV disease, which at this time of September and October, 2014, the rate of new infections was extremely high in the Chiefdom. This forced our hospital to hesitate to re-open especially after when one of the Brothers, Dr. Manuel Garcia Viejo got himself infected on 11 September, and passed on 25th September, 2014 in Spain. Alimentos y material hospitalario destinado a la protección del personal del Hospital de Mabesseneh
Ayer, 20 de enero, se cargaron en el almacén de Juan Ciudad ONGD de Madrid 14 toneladas de material hospitalario destinado a la protección del personal del Hospital Saint John of God en Mabesseneh (Sierra Leona), además de camillas, sábanas y toallas, y alimentos de primera necesidad. Este es el segundo envío del año de la Fundación, ya que el pasado 13 de enero se envió otro contenedor con 12 toneladas de ayuda humanitaria al Centro de Salud Mental en Lomé, Togo, con diverso material sanitario, además de alimentos y productos de higiene y limpieza.

As the New Year 2105 begins, many people have anticipated that the Ebola situation will definitely improve. Indeed, the trend is taking a better shape. The number of new infections has reduced by 50% in December, 2014 compared with November 2014. In this few days of January, 2015, we are noticing a gradual progress. Definitely, the hot spot districts remain Western Area (Freetown), Port Loko and Kono. The saddest part of the story is that our only International airport area is becoming infested newly with the Virus. But the Port Loko district Ebola Response centre (PLDERC) has rapidly taken a holistic approach to contain the situation there. We the Brothers of St. John of God and staff are also supporting there currently with nutrition and surveillance. Sigue leyendo
